1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains what information getcapz (“getcapz”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use our website and captioning service (the “Service”), why we collect it, and the choices you have. It should be read alongside our Terms of Service.

2. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways:

• Account information you give us directly: your email, name, and password (or your Google account details if you sign up with Google).
• Content you upload: the video and audio files you submit for captioning, and the caption text and exports the Service generates from them.
• Usage data collected automatically: pages visited, features used, device and browser type, and approximate location derived from IP address.

3. How we use your information

We use the information above to:

• Generate and let you edit captions from your uploads
• Operate your account, including billing and plan limits
• Send account and service emails (verification, receipts, product updates)
• Understand how the Service is used, so we can improve it
• Detect and prevent abuse of the Service
• Showcase captioned video exports for marketing, as described in Section 5 of our Terms of Service

4. Third parties we share data with

We don't sell your data. We use a small number of service providers to run getcapz, each processing only what they need to do their job:

• Cloudflare R2 stores your uploaded video and audio files and the captioned exports
• ElevenLabs processes audio to generate transcriptions
• Stripe processes payments for paid plans; we never see or store your full card number
• Resend delivers transactional emails (verification, password reset, receipts)
• PostHog collects product usage analytics to help us understand how the Service is used

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of getcapz or others.

5. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand product usage through PostHog. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling them may affect how the Service works.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you sign up but never verify your email, your account and any uploaded files are automatically deleted after 7 days. If you delete your account, we delete your uploaded files and generated captions within a reasonable time, except where we're required to keep records for legal or accounting purposes.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Export your data in a portable format
• Opt out of having your captioned videos featured in our marketing, per Section 5 of our Terms of Service

8. Data security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's privacy

getcapz isn't directed at children under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your country, if higher). We don't knowingly collect personal information from children below that age.

10. International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside your country of residence. Where required, we rely on standard contractual safeguards to protect data transferred internationally.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you directly.
